IH 2504 or JD 2020. Opinions please.

I posted this in both the IH forum and the JD forum but I know I might get biased responses so I posted here as well...

Ok, so I have an IH 2504 4cyl gas and either a 2000 or 3000 loader (not sure which one it is). I am in the process of fixing quite a few things. I bought it for $650 but probably stills needs $2000 - 2500 in fixing.

I have an opportunity to purchase a John Deere 2020 4cyl diesel with a model 48 loader. Everything seems to be in working order. Maybe needs a few hundred in fix ups.

Which tractor would you guys rather own and why? Thanks.
 
Don't know that much about the IH,but if the 2020 is as good of a tractor as the 1020,and I think it probably is,I'd go with the 2020 hands down going away. I've got a 1020 gas here with a Freeman loader on it that I've beat the daylights out of every day for the last 32 years and amazingly,it STILL runs and works. It's just sitting now since I replaced it with a FWA this past winter,but it's been one heck of a tractor.
 
The IH 2504 is another version of the 504, isn't it? I had a 504 diesel for several years, and ran a neighbor's 2020 quite a bit- both had loaders. The 2020 was much more "nimble" for a utility tractor, and it had a better gear selection (I never have been a big fan of the TA). And I much prefer diesel to gas. I'd take the JD, even if it costs more (and it should).
 
The 4-219 motor in the 2020 is a tiger, fuel efficient, and reliable.
The 504 is not a bad tractor but most likely not as good as the
2020.
 
I have owned both and I still own both red and green tractors, so I like both. The 2020 is probably one of the best utility tractors made, and the 504 is one of the worst. It's geared wrong for most jobs, the controls are not handy. The 2020 is a very good tractor. I have a 2510 now which has the same engine, just in a row crop version. I like it too.
 
I have a 2020 and it is the most powerful pound for pound of any tractor I have owned. Obviously 4x4 is better for a FEL but there is no question which is the better tractor.
