The story below about gov officers tresspassing reminded me of the old story about an oldtimer farmer noticing a man climbing over his field gate. "You can't go in there" he hollered to the man...." See this badge, this is a badge of the US government....It permits me to go anywhere I please and do what ever I have to do, and you nor nobody else is going to stop me going into that field!"
"OK" said the old guy "Don't let me stop you"
A few minutes later the old guy heard a real comotion down the field and the government guy was running as hard as he could with the bull going equally as hard behind him "Call him off me" he shouted... "Can't do that"replied the old farmer "But, Why don't you show him your badge, SHOW HIM YOUR BADGE!"
LOL....Sam

Not too far from the truth around here.
My nosy neighbor called the drain commission and told them I was "eroding soil into a controlled waterway", those were the exact words, so I assume she had done a little research how to file a complaint.

I came home from work and found a drain commission truck sitting in my driveway. Couldnt find anyone anywhere. I finally see one of my dogs on point. The person had gotten out of her truck and walked over to the pond I was digging. She got into the pond before the dogs seen her. They went on point and would not let her out of the bottom of the pond. I had an 18 foot hole 200 foot across and she was standing at the bottom.

Needless to say she was very happy to see me. Dogs didnt do a thing other than not let her move. Two mastiffs 150 and 170 lbs. She was a "city" person and not real comfortable around dogs.

We had a short talk, every thing was fine. They had a talk with the neighbor. Same neighbor that called the cops saying people were running around with guns and tresspassing. We were hunting coyotes on our own property. Police were less than pleased when they came out that day with her. She is known as that neighbor in the community, board meetings, etc.

It wouldn't bother me if I found a couple of government guys in my field. I have nothing to hide. It would be nice if they would knock on my door first. Jim

I was helping my dad one day when a DNR doofus stumbles across the field. Didn't stop at the house or anything. I confronted him and he waved his "right of entry" card. He said he was looking at the dead walnut trees along the ditch. Problem was that there wasn't a walnut tree within a mile of that ditch. Mulberry, cottonwood, elm, maple, and willows, no walnuts to be seen along or near the ditch. When he asked for my "credentials" and I responded that I was a high school grad he laughed and told me he's forgotten more about trees than I ever would know without further education. I told him he must have forgotten an awful lot about walnuts. I escorted him to his taxpayer-funded truck and asked him to return when he had knowledge to actually do the job he was being paid to do and he hasn't been back since. I haven't seen a sickly walnut before or since, either.

Same employer, different doofus put bug/fly traps out in the middle of several farmer's fields and threatened them with legal action when the traps disappeared. They disappeared when the stalk of corn they were strapped to without permission of or consulting with the farmer went through a combine or silage chopper. Never heard anymore about that, either.

Sad part is she'll get elected!! Government logic, when I worked for the county a county about 60 miles south of us laid off 35 highway department workers (guess the shovels will have to hold themselves up), with in a week our County Highway committee was meeting and telling my boss he had to lay off 35 workers. Took him a little over three hours to get them to understand when you only have 28 employees it's impossible to lay of 35 unless you want to hire 7 just to lay them off.

I spent a lot of years dealing with people when I worked for the state. It didn't take me long to figure out the vast, vast majority of the people out there respond much better to polite, respectful dialog than they do to acting like a bonehead. That was kind of drilled into us back int he day, but like all else, things seem to be changing.

Jim that's the whole point. They didn't knock and they could see the house from where they parked. They also lied about me having signed up for programs that included consent. Heck they were doing residue surveys.
