The original subject was "Re: Tractor Supply Oil".

coming from an IH dealer. the 303 oil uses zinc as an anti wear additive. HY-Tran is formulated 100% zinc free because zinc as been known to case problems with the transmission clutches and wet brakes

keep reading the buckets. you will notice batches of oil are made by different people and in different batches with different specs. same with walmart oil.

something in a post from 2010.. that oil may not exist on the shelf anymore..

TSC brand Traveller oil is made by Ashland oil, Warren Distribution, and perhaps one other company. WalMart oil is made by several suppliers but will be consistent in a given region....IE, suppliers bid on contracts for each region. Stay away from any and all oils that are packaged in yellow buckets. Unless it is purchased from a Deere dealer. All other yellow bucket trans/hydraulic oils are garbage, no matter who makes it. There is a reason the yellow bucket oils are cheaper. An oil company employee

If you google TSC Traveller Premium trans-hyd fluid MSDS you get not the msds, but an application guide and insight into the problems the oil is designed to attack. I just pulled up yesterday with regard to the Zinc comment. I have a new tractor and use the Premium, owners manual requires it. On my older tractors I just use the 134a in the yellow bucket from a parts jobber.

TSC sells several grades of oil to service new and older tractors.

Guys think what you will about who makes what and what color the container is. If every oil company did their own packaging, they would have to charge $30 per qt. to cover the costs. The base oils; light , medium and heavy vicosities that make up finished oils are all bought and sold on the spot market. Price decides what you get. Additives are bought and sold the same way. There are only 4 or 5 packagers across the USA that can oil. If you think you are getting something made specially for you, keep dreaming.
