NEKS army worms

Read your post about army worms. It has been on my mind since. The brome is the least of the worries around here as the beans aren't all in and the wheat is a couple of weeks out. I don't want to ignore the chance though if I could be doing some planning or preparing now, though.

Any more info on worms out that way? I am a few miles north of Ottawa. The only stories worse than worm stories were the grasshopper stories. In some places the brome is as tall as the roof on the Gator. What is the word on the street?

Army worms were in the fescue two weeks ago around Bucyrus, last week in Clover around Blue Mound and have been moving out of the wheat from Elsmore to Moran looking for greener goodies. If the beans were up they'd be easier to find but they will migrate to what is juiciest.

They seem to be in certian areas. The neighbor had a big egg shaped brown spot in his hay field where the worms took in. I am ready to spray, but decided to go ahead and mow this one 50 acre field. The county agent said its the little ones that will eat a lot. Big ones are about done eating. Only have two or three littles ones to the square foot in this 50 acre patch.

What county are you in, trying to get an idea where they are and which direction they're moving. I heard heresay the worms were in some ground around Baldwin City.

BROTHER! I'm in Franklin county four miles south of Baldwin. Neighbor and I are getting antsy about this news. Haven't heard about any here but there are a few of these boys that would love to keep quiet and see things happen to your fields, too. Very windy today - nothing is happening even if I wanted.

Seems like we got rain and now every kind of plague has come with it. I've never seen so many animals die in one year!
