my local tire dealer has suggested the following tire for my old dodge diesel truck 2x4

Firestone "TransForce HT" size 265/70/17 load range E, 10 ply rating

his price is $205 ea.

anyone used these tires????

If so, would you buy them again????
let me know the good/bad/ugly

Thanks, Fred

I had a set of Firestone Transforce 265/75/16 on my 2000 Chevy. Ran them 85,000 miles. Good tires.

I put 6 of them on my dually a few years ago. The dually gets very little use, so I can"t brag about how many miles they have on them. I can tell you though that I am very pleased with how they ride and drive.

Ran 2 sets in 235/80/17 "E" on dually Dodge, didn't like their wet road performance. Now running Cooper Discoverer HT for last 12-14 kmi, seem to be better on wet pavement. I paid ~$1000 for 6 Coopers about 8 months ago, cheaper than the Firestones at the time. Mine is daily driver, wish I got the mileage some are seeing.

Speaking as a Firestone dealer he's high on his price. Trans Force A/T's would be better choice if your off road a lot but if highway is all you see then the H/T's will be just fine.

That Firestone is a decent tire, but I only sell them to BfS national accounts or in odd 16.5 applications. You can get a much cheaper Chinese tire, like a Goodride (knockoff of an LtX Michelin) for $50 less per tire and still run 50,000 miles on it. I sold 10,000 of 'em last year with only 3 defects...pretty good. Private label cooper( used to be made in Ohio, now Chinese) not to shabby either

Just put them on my "04 Dodge diesel. Excellent traction, aggressive lug in mud, but not noisy on the road. Good compromise. Way too early to tell about mileage, longevity, etc. Price was about the same.

HT is a highway tread. If you ever see any mud or snow you"ll likely hate them. Especially in a nose-heavy 2wd. If punctures are a concern you can pick up Hankook Dynapro M/T"s for that price, they wear decent, great traction, and they are a heavy tire, pick up a Cooper A/T2 in one hand and a Dynapro in the other and it will about tip you over.
