Now the Army Worms

Need to get started spraying for army worms. They are showing up in some brome fields. I have heard they can clean a field in three days. Wanted to start mowing brome this week, but have to much brome hay to put up to get ahead of them. Heard that if you find five to eight per square foot need to spray. The last time I seen any amount of army worms was in the late 60's.

I would say by the handle he is in NE KS. Like in the Topeka area or there about.

Army worms will show up in a small area first, then mature go into ground and come back out as a moth...usually a brown moth, then all the moths will cover field with eggs and keep moving...I have cut hay with army worms and the worms said thank you, because the grass was on the ground and as long it is green they will eat it..after first finding of them you have about 21 to 28 days before they come back...put on rubber boots and walk out early in the morning while dew is still there and they will be on boots..I have seen them clean everything including yards, weeds and whatever was in their way, in East Tx

In the mid 50's Dad had them in a 30 acre milo field. Had them sprayed with a plane. Wrong Spray and buy the next day they had the milo gone, and going across the road. The pilot landed on the road, and got out and said lets see these worms. Look down at your feet. HOLY SH@. I would guess we had 30 per foot. Never had them again.

We have a few nearly every year but last year during the drought was the worst I've seen They hit us early in the spring and again in late summer. I had a 15 acre wheat field that they cleaned off in 1 day. If you see the midge moth it is about 3 weeks before the worms hatch (I think). I spray with either Mustang or Sevin.

We had army worms so bad in the 60's you could hear 'em eat (munch) at night. We would drive up and down the road to mash 'em flat. Nightmare on feet.
