summer has arrived

Well summer arrived in Great Britain last week and the silage and hay making got going full bore here in Northern Ireland....About 2-3 weeks late but crops and the excellent weather have made up for that. The roads were full of tractors hauling grass back to the silage clamps every where.
Many contractors/custom workers were reporting outputs of approaching 1000 acres through the harvester this week. the outfit in my pictures had 1000 acres done yesterday at lunchtime, but it did do a couple of all-nighters! Not bad in fields averaging 3.5 acres!

We have a 3000 head dairy close and they used corn silage with other rations. They come early with Claus cutters and cut about 500+ acres and come back later and finish. They just pack stacks on concrete. It is so green that the juice was running down a waterway that the trucks were using. A truck got stuck in it. Last year in the dry year, he was 300 acres short. I think he has bought that much or more ground this year. We filled upright silos or bunkers and waited until the shucks started to turn brown. The best machine we ever had was a Fox 2 row. The good old days!!
