NiteGuard is a solar powered device which flashes a red light at night to discourage animals. Anybody got any deer experience to share?

A deer proof fence, electric or otherwise, is the only proven deterrent. Lead poisoning also works, but is a bit more time consuming.

We used 2 last year.No skunk or coon damage. No deer tracks in the garden.Lettuce transplants were getting chewed, a Nite light at plant level stopped the damage.

We have a five foot high fence, topped by two strands of 50 pound test monofilament fishing line. The strands are about six and seven above the ground. The deer would jump the fence, but they leave the garden alone after adding the mono.

You should know that critters do nite time raids.Turkeys do come in day time.I have watched racoons slink along the ground at night.Deer will eat all the pears on the ground but they seem to avoid the side toward the buildings.Coon hunters go out at night.During the day coons are in dens or just up in tree tops.

Michigan deer work all three shifts. Different work ethic, I guess. Likewise with the raccoon I shot last year while she was trying to get into our chicken coop in the middle of the afternoon. And the woodchuck that tunnelled under our garden fence so he could come in for lunchtime snack.
