June 7th my father was in La Madeline, France. His company, had been both trained as Quartermaster and Infantry. Originally sent to Egypt to deliver supplies, their trucks were still in Virginia. They used Italian and German trucks they repainted... they were transferred to Infantry and sent to Tunisia. From there they were transferred to England. They found their trucks in transit and had them dropped off. They were among the first resupply trucks to land at Utah Beach on June 6th.

He is at the bottom left in the pic.

Pop was in England- awaiting orders to move to an embarkation point. They were supposed to land on D-Day+2- but their orders never came until D+4. He landed D+6, moved inland a few miles and started building an airfield.

my dad was a mortar man in the infantry in northern italy at this time. was in the first beach invasion at anzio, italy. pushed up through italy and france. wounded 4 times in italy and twice more critically by the germans when he was taken pow near the rhine river. no photos of dad overseas.

Neat pic and story! My Grandfather fought through N.Africa, Italy, then France too...on one hand I so wish those Great Men and Women were still around, I"d love to sit and hear stories of Pre War America, War Stories, and Post War Stories as told by the people who really lived it vs the revisionists, but on the other hand If Grampa were here today I would be so embarrassed to look at him as he realized what our little slice of the world has come to. It is so hard to rationalize that so many gave so much just for our country to become what it is today!

Great pic. My grandfather served in the 10th Armored landed in Cherbourg France on one of the first troop ships that sailed from the states directly to France. Was at Bastogne Belgium during the Battle of the Bulge. Made 2nd Lieutenant after they ran out of West Point grads. It was his second time in the army went in in 37 got out in early 41 and was called back in 41. I could go on and on about him but I want. I 'll just say it was one he!! of a generation of young men . My grandfather has been gone for a lot of years but I still miss him every day
