706 and a 2000 loader

I own a 706 and am researching putting a loader on it to move round bales and and manure. I have seen ih 2000, 2001, and 2250 for sale and from the little I have read about the different models, the 2000 seems the best fit for the money 1,000-1,500 range vs the 2250 at 1,500-3,000.

My questions are, which loader is truly the best fit for my tractor, and also, how much hassle is there in attaching a loader that was previously mounted on a different model tractor?

A buddy of mine had 706 with a 2000 loader, he used it like a dozer, never broke anything. You need all the brackets to fit the 706, and putting it on yours depends on what it was on before. Like how bad did they chop it up to make it fit, once you get it on yours, its a great loader, but best left on.

Thanks for the info. I don't think I'll have a need to take it off. Something I'm not sure of though, does the 2000 have a bale spear attachment or is that something ill need to have fabricated?

It is very easy to fab mounts for the 2000 loader. We made lots of them when we were Case dealers. the 2000 loader was made by Great Bend, as was the case loaders. Here are very simple mtgs that are strong and easy to make. I posted this quick sketch for another fellow last week, who wanted to put a 800 GB ldr. on a Case 870. This will work on your 706 just fine.
The front bracket goes across the front of your tractor and the 6" angles clamp under your rear axles. If you want to get fancy you can fab up a saddle on the end of the 6" angle to clamp the ldr. strut into, but welding it to the strut works just as well.

2000 loader is a perfect match for a 706.

2250 is nice because you can back out of it in 5 minutes, but it uses the tractor frame for all the pushing. Might be a little tight on a 706. A 2350 would be a better fit.

That said the 2350 loader on the 756 never broke the tractor. After 30-odd years of use the loader arms broke at the pins.

Like others have said, as long as your 706 is a dedicated loader tractor a 2000 loader is great. It's not the easiest to go on and off with so put it on and leave it on. If you plan on taking it off regularly then I strongly suggest coughing up the extra money for a quick tach loader now. As far as a spear, how many round bales are you planning on handling? 50 or so a year you can just get a spear that chains to the bucket, any more then that I would fab up a spear to mount in place of the bucket.

I had a 2000 loader on a 706 once , it was ok and not much of a hassle to get on and off BUT i had a narrow ft. , had it been a wide ft. yep it would have been a pain in the donkey . Go with the 2250 , a little heavier loader and quick on and off. Oh and load the rear tires and add all the wheel weights you can .
