Kentucky ;, what a disappointment.

Traveled last 2 days to ky for the 400 mile yard sale, what a waste of time. Started in Mayswille about noon, nothing the antizue stores were not even open. Traveled down Route 68 found a few people set up, sourh of Lexington nothing. What a rip off.

So we decided to go to the Cynthiana, Ky tractor show that according to the Farm Collectors Director;y started on June 6, 2013 . Guess what there were 2 tractors there, Talked to the organizer who was there and he said it starts on the 7th. Another waste of time and money

Next thought we would go to the Piketon , Ohio show tomorrow. Directory asys it runs June 7-9 th. Google says it run 9-10 in one place and 8-9th in another place.

What gives guys , are these two states just stupid or what.

I can top that.

Years back I was stationed in Texas, loved it, miss it to this very day. One time happened to head down to San Antonio and visited the Alamo. The Alamo isn't very big. Its pretty small. Much smaller tan the church next to it. But, I saw the Alamo. Many years later while living and working in Illinois, my company sent me and some other guys down to Austin for training. From the time we got on the jet at O'Hare one of the guys said that he rented the movie the Alamo and watched it TWICE the night before, and wanted to go see the Alamo when we got there. "I wanna go to the Alamo...I wanna go to the Alamo". We get to the hotel and check into our rooms, "I wanna go to the Alamo". Next day, all day in class, "I wanna go to the Alamo". The following day, Tuesday in class, "I wanna go to the Alamo". ENOUGH!!! After class we get back to the hotel, pull into the parking lot, "I wanna go...", so the other guys bail out and I drove the guy 70 or 90 miles from Austin to San Antonio to the Alamo, and when we got there it was dark. Do you know what happens at the Alamo when it gets dark? It has no electricity, so its closed if you get there when its dark. I drove "I wanna go to the Alamo, I wanna go to the Alamo, I wanna.." 70 or 90 miles to a closed Alamo, because it was dark.

But guess what? It just so happens that it was Fat Tuesday at the Mardi Gras, and for whatever reason, they either celebrate the Mardi Gras or Fat Tuesday in San Antonio along the River Walk with a flotilla of boats. AND, they serve beer, lots of beer along the River Walk boat flotilla on Fat Tuesday in San Antonio, so I got hammered to make it worth my time, and when I was good and done, I made "I wanna go to the Alamo" drive me 70 or 90 miles back to Austin afterwards when I gave him the keys.

I got over it, he got over it. Life isn't perfect, but a Fat Tuesday in San Antonio changed my whole attitude that day, or night. As a matter of fact, the whole danged state of Texas will always be good for me. Give it a shot sometime.

And get this. Years later, my company sent me and about four other guys to training in California. The "Alamo" was one of the guys. A couple of nights later, all five of us go out to dinner after class and come to an agreement that we were going to drive some 40 miles to some town to take in some sites, and we ALL agreed on it, even the "Alamo" agreed on it. It was my turn to drive, so I drove and when we got there, we happened onto a night club that had...dancers and decided to go in. As we were getting out of the car, the "Alamo" started whining "I want to go back to my room". Huh? We all agreed, so here we are. But, "I wanna go back to my room" kept it up, so we all climbed back in the car and drove the "Alamo" 40 miles back to his room, with him whining and complaining the whole way. As we got to the parking lot, I don't remember what he said, but after opening the door to get out, he said one too many wrong things, so I yelled, "Remember the Alamo", floored it out of the parking lot, back 40 miles to the club and told him to catch a taxi back to his room. Four of us went in, had a great time, the "Alamo" caught a taxi back to his room. Life is not perfect.

Now the remark about all of us from Ohio & Kentucky being stupid is WAY out of line. I don't think YOU have a right to classify us any more than we do to classify ALL the folks from Maryland into one catigory. A simple appology will do nicely. In my humble mind, driving 400 miles to get to a yard sale would pretty much put someone in the stupid class, but then again I'm not a yard sale person LOL. Just my thoughts, Keith

I think you are way out of line. Opinions are like a*****s;after travelling through your state several times I thought WHY? the citizens would be better served if this skintag was part of Joisey or Virginia. You took the trip,no need to bash these states.

OK guys , My remark about Ky and Ohio was out of line, I am sorry for the stupid remark.. But I had seem on the National news several times about the
Great 400 mile long Yard Sale across the whole atate of Ky. on route 68..

So I will just "Remember the Alamo".

I live in KY and never heard of the 400 mile sale. Must be something new. The 127 Yard Sale should start in August. It is a big one. I think it runs through several states. As for the tractor show, looks like you got there too early. Maybe you should call ahead next time...

The 400 mile yard sale on us 68 predates the 127 event and having driven a lot of miles along the way, its a big event in many places. if you can't find a yard sale you ain't looking in the right place.

You got ripped off? How much did you pay and to who? Who was behind any sort of advertising that led you to believe that there was any sort of legal representation?

I've lived in NY my entire life. I never went to NYC. When I finally did, it was the most boring, wasted time I ever spent. There is absolutely nothing for a guy like me to do in NYC but drink. That's fine if you want to drink, I guess.

Hopefully you are still in the area of Lexington and will spend the time to make a second trip to Cynthiana Ky tractor show. The first day is only the set up day and by friday evening and saturday morning there are usually 50 to 60 tractors and equipment there.

I know the man responsible for the show, Junior (Frazier) Dailey personally and you have missed Kentucky hospitality at its finest by denying yourself the opportunity to meet and listen to some of the lifestories of a self made, homespun, honest and hardworking man.

It is mainly a hometown show mostly with tractors from the general area and owned by some of the nicest men and women I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. I am sorry that I can't make the trip this year to rekindle those friendships.

The Kentucky bluegrass is a sight to see in and of its own and is worth the trip by itself.

I grew up in Cynthiana. Folks still live there. All my friends are there.

You missed a good show. Always lots of interesting equipment from around the area. How can you blame the organizer for you showing up early?

Open mouth, insert foot.

It's been a few years since we've been to it, but we accidentally found ourselves in the midst of the great 400 mile Kentucky yard sale. We jumped in with both feet and had a good time, even tho I ain't a yard sale type. I don't know how they got our address, but a few weeks later we got a package in the mail, and it contained two nice Kentucky Yard Sale tee shirts, and they were even the right size. My only bad experience with Kentucky was the 77 mph speeding ticket I got in 1976, and who's fault was that? Give them another try, but go the same week that they're holding the event. It always works better that way.

I've never even heard of that yard sale. Come back the first weekend in August for the 127 Yard Sale. You won't be disappointed with that one!
127 Yard Sale

What makes those dates come up like that is somebody gets ahold of the info from last year and just puts those dates down without checking the calender as most years it will be off that one day but on leap year it makes it worse. When you get a date you are not sure of check the schedual that goes with the show and see if it is a show that has items scheduald for say a sunday and the calender says the last date is saterday then you know those dates are the last years show and use that calender to figure out what the dates would be based on the schedual. Example our local show is in May on Memorial day weekend that includes only friday, saterday and sunday mot some Like to try to put the actuall holliday in there as well. Then a local monthly publication April issue had on the front cover about the show with the dates of 25-26-27 and featuring IHC but that was last year, this year the dates were24-25-26 and Ohio built. On the May cover they had corrected it.

127 is not to be found in spots in Ky or southern Oh. Can br on it and the route just drops of the face of the earth. I got cought up in that in Ky. Know where it ends in Oh. And it does not cross the river.

I you want to take a picture of the kids on Santa's lap....don't take them to the mall in July. Check the dates...before you start on the trip. Geeezzzz

I always get off 127 in Eaton Ohio when I'm headed south, take State Highway 122 over to Middletown, take 75 through Cincinnati and get back on 127 at Florence Y'ALL.

127 does go right through downtown Cinci,I made the mistake of staying on it one time. It's just city streets through the hood. You'll get on the bridge on 75 just before the river.

There are a few decent yard sale stops south of Eaton, but not enough to make it worth going all the way through Hamilton and downtown Cincinnati.

I cant speak for Ohio, but yes KY is stupid. Now that we have confirmed that for you, do us a favor, and keep your highly intelligent a$$(that apparently cant read, and or comprehend event fliers) in MD. Sincerely Garrett Fields a proud KY resident, that put his stupidy to use, and plans to attend the Cynthiana show TODAY when it starts!

Heck of a day for me to have the song "I can hear Kentucky calling me" stuck in my head ain't it? lol

Better read your maps,Leroy.127 starts at Mackenac City Mi.and ends at Chattanooga Tennessee nonstop. It runs with I75-27&42 in places but is unbroken full lenght.

We just spent the weekend in Columbia, Ky. Not for a tractor show but for my friend's wedding. Seems like the whole state smells like honeysuckle at the moment. Beautiful state and some pretty good folks! I wished we lived there most times.

(quoted from post at 04:15:18 06/07/13) What gives guys , are these two states just stupid or what.

Not the states, just some of the people in them! I see a bunch of them on the way in and home from work on I-70.

W_B, from Ohio.

As another "Robert", formerly from Maryland, I will just point out that "Robert from MD" is the common factor between these two mistakes, and apologize to the Kentuckians and all others offended by "Robert". So glad I left that place and moved to America,

Hmm, lessee...

The 400 mile garage sale is June 6,7,8,9. Today is the 7th so the earliest you possibly could've gone was yesterday. Yesterday was WEDNESDAY. People are working.

The tractor show... Well, you should've realized that they wouldn't host a tractor show on a Sunday-Monday. It probably said 2012 too... So clearly the 7,8,9 dates are the correct ones. You obviously went today. Given the time of day, you must've shown up there at what, 6AM?

Anybody that knows anything about these types of things knows that the day to go is usually SATURDAY, and then in the afternoon.

Friday is usually a set-up day, and even then only some of the participants show up. Most of them are regular folks who have day jobs and aren't going to take 2-3 days off just so you've got something to look at.

Sunday is usually tear-down day, and if you show up mid-afternoon expecting a show, you'll be disappointed. Most people are pooped out from "showing" the day before and have some distance to travel, and have jobs to get back to on Monday morning...

Bet I saw a hundred or more yard sales in the last 2 days along 68/80 in the Bowling Green to Hopkinsville area.

As a follow-up to the Cynthiana tractor show, my brother just got back from there and reported over 100 entries with more than 80 tractors in the line up. Had a fantastic trip and had a grand time and also said the people of Kentucky are among the friendliest people in general he has ever met.
