Found the perfect crop I can grow finally

I have decided that for the past two years I"ve been growing the perfect crop and never realized it. "Grasshoppers" They have completely consumed my garden, everything but the Okra. They ate the tops off my onions, they even ate my cabbage and brussell sprouts, they"re eating my garlic and polk too. Deamon WP will kill them but me too and any thing else, Tempo is the same. Does anyone know how to market these critters? If I could sell them, I could pay off the National Debt overnight. Any ideas on how to control them? Oh yeah, last year they even stripped my pecan trees also.

It was on the news just recently that in many parts of the world people eat insects, and that it is a considerable part of the world food supply. Hold onto your breeding stock, they will be worth a lot!!

Come out here Tony, The canyon bottoms are full of the stuff. Sure, it's low grade but you can still get in trouble for "harvesting" But I've cut and baled a lot of it up with the hay. I'd like to haul a load past the drug dogs sometime. I bet it would make their alarms go off!

I thought of the same thing during our drought/hopper infestation a few years ago. I swore I had more hoppers in the meager swaths than hay. If you could invent a process to turn them into a cheap protein source in some way, it would almost be worth developing a hopper harvester.

The "hoppers" are not too bad a little farther east here by Winnsboro, TX.
But I may have to have the chickens patrol just out side the garden.
They go nuts for hoppers.
Andrew.

I had grasshopper tacos one time on a dare. Bunch of us were in Mexico. They had pan fried them (the legs burned off) and it was just them and the tortilla. Nothing to mask the flavor.

They really aren't bad, but they are pretty gamey. They almost have a muddy fish kind of taste to them. You know, the kind of fish you wouldn't eat unless you were broke and starving.

One bad year we put out that "Nolo Bait" and that seemed to control them for a year or two. After that we had chickens and they kept the area pretty clear.

We had hoppers here a few years ago. They ate everything, even the bark off the trees. We kept them out of the yard with chickens. Now we have wild turkeys in the fields. I bet they will keep them out.

I've got chickens and guineas, they get out and eat a while and come back and set in the shade to digest their meal and start over again. They haven't made a dent. Someone told me to try mixing two cups bleach with a gal of water and spray the plants, I did this morning, waiting to see if that helps any.
