Massey Ferguson 5445

Always wanted one, a low hour one has come up for sale in the area, cab, loader and 4x4, 2004 model. Does any one own one?? Good or bad??? Thanks for your thoughts.

They are quite popular over in Britain with livestock farmers as feeding/chore tractors. The 5455 is more popular but more thirsty for loader work...However it is better suited to a bit of cultivation and driving a 10 foot mower.
Good luck with your purchase!

Its the same as my 5455 but with the pump down a hair. Not over powered for a heavy tractor in the early Tier 2 models. I like mine a lot but it has high hours and had a less than careful previous owner.

Things to watch:
-there was a timing gear update required early on not all were done.
-The alternator bracket on the original timing gear case is garbage and breaks off. There is a repair kit depending on what broke.
-There was a wiring harness recall in early models too.
-The bottom of clutch switch is likely bad or will go bad, cheap to replace and stops the neck snapping clutch.
-Some early ones had a manual shuttle and dry main clutch. Watch out if it had a loader with that dry clutch. Expensive to split a cab model.
-Dyna 4 is a big plus, the speedshift model is quite clunky until it warms up.
