Pink Antifreeze

I have an O'4 Dodge with the pink antifreeze. Do I need to top it off with pink or is the new green compatible? Or do I need to drain and start over?

I have mixed differant color anti-freeze just make sure its compatible with what the system uses.

No conventional green. Whats in there now is Zerex"s G-05 with a different color die. Same thing Ford uses thats yellowed, heck even John Deere has the same thing in green. As long as its an HOAT coolant, and not an OAT coolant youll be fine.

Hi Nebraska Cowman, based on my experience with 2 Dodges using the pink AF, have had no problems as per John M's explanation which agrees with that of the local service/oil guys I use. If any questions follow dealer guidelines, but will be more costly.

the pink stuff is used for aluminum engines.just ned to check if the green is compatible with it.

Prestone 5 year 150k AF, still the old tomato worm fluorescent color is guaranteed to work with any AF. Read the label.

Can you use Zerex G-05 with convential antifreeze? I partially filled an old tractor with coventional "green" antifreeze then poured in Zerex G-05 to finish filling it. Due to the color I hadn't realized until after the fact that they were two different types of coolant - but the Zerex G-05 said it could be used in older vehicles in place of conventional coolant.

It wasn't specific as to being able to mix the two.

Guys they are all glycols.. All glycols mix. .. Ethylene glycol is green and it will kill your dog or cat. Polypropolene Glycol won't and is bio degradeable. I just got 12 barrels of a blue colored one with a leak additive added. It is a new old stock, full strength. Come fall I will sell it at about $5 per gallon. It will go fast at that price.

It is best to stay with whatever antifreeze you already have. However, there is a replacement antifreeze that is a universal formula. This antifreeze works in MOST cars and light trucks, including your Dodge.

If it's got Dexcool, keep using Dexcool... This is propylene glycol. Regular antifreeze is ethylene glycol. The two are not compatible.... So use one or the other but don't mix.

I mixed the two together a few years ago and the result was that the coolant jelled. Had to pull the radiator and had a heck of a time getting all that jell out of the radiator.

Now I use only the red Long Life anti-freeze. It seems to lubricate the water pump and make the water pump last longer.

You can't miss by adding the same stuff. I've seen antifreeze out there that is supposed to work with either the pink stuff or the green (Prestone, etc) or blue (Xerox) types. Sure, there are scientific names for them, but to me, pink or blue/green. You got pink? Can't mess up if go pink. Fortunately for me, or unfortunately from a improved point of view, none of mine are pink to mix the blue/green stuff with and cause a gel. That being said, the last stuff I bought was made by Texaco when I changed the thermostat in the Deere last summer, and its green and unlike most stuff, not premixed. I ended up mixing five unopened gallons with about 50/50 water to prevent freezing down to something like -20 degrees at the same time to prevent it from gelling at about -20 degrees if I didn't mix it.

I should have been born wealthy, good looking, and proportional to a horse in a certain area with lots of girlfriends so I wouldn't have to deal with much of anything. I lost at all of them and use blue/green antifreeze.

Good luck.

Mix them in a jar and see if they mix. You will find that most mix. Common sense says if they don't mix, it isn't a glycol, so don't add it.LOL

What is strange about some of these comments is that when you Goggle "antifreeze compatability", the consensus is that most mix.
