I still have a few pictures to clean out of my one file. These are on the IH Mogul Tractor and a look inside the factory. Pretty Impressive.

What are the things in photos 6 & 7 that look kind of like raised crosses? Are they casting molds for something? I cannot read the caption on the photo.

I worked in foundries for over 30 years and this is the first time I've ever seen someone pour iron wearing a tie and vest.
As for as the raised crosses, I'm not sure. That's is the sand used to make the molds. Maybe from the mixing machine.

Big Ruh the man in the tie is Mr. McCormick. He was there as they opened their new plant.

Sweetfeet, I'm not sure what the crosses are for in the sand molds but I would think they are core that makes an opening in the newly poured molten metal. Just a guess.

Near as I can read Cyrus Mc Jr. is pouring the first casting in the tractor/engine and reaper works. Date is 1915 or somewhere close to that.

"Cyrus McCormick Jr. pouring first iron melted at the new tractor works November xx, 191x. Up until this foundry was built, the castings for tractor and engines came from wherever IHC could obtain. Some castings were made at the reaper works."

Very interesting pictures John, wonder what was going on with the gas tractors that are stuck, one appears to be running too in the muck.

Would love to own one of those stationary engines on the carts too

Nice pics . Thanks for posting. Wish the pic of the 10-20 was in color. I have one sitting in the shop for some odds and ends work and a paint job. It has a 40 year old paint job that's fairly close to matching the original but there's some detail work that's lacking. I'm going to print your pic just to have use as a guideline. Jim
