Well I finally planted my corn today, after snow and rain about every other day in may I finally got dried out enough to plant my little 3 acre plot. (not enough to loose any sleep over) I didnt feel too bad though as the "big guys" around me are all racing to do the same thing. I guess I should just be happy we have some moisture this year. It looks like I will have a pretty good first cutting of hay so its time to store the old planter away and get out the hay equipment now. One day Im gonna find a better hobby!

There's a farm near me that doesn't even break ground til the end of June. They plant around July 1st every year and every year they have a bumper crop of fine looking corn. I don't know how they do it, but I've been watching them for almost 20 years and it never varies.

Same family bought a brand new Ford tractor some years back, a 5610 I think, and returned it a few days later because the draw bar was a couple inches higher than their other 2 Ford tractors and ordered another tractor based on drawbar height! The only guy I ever see there wears a "farmer uniform" like something from an ad in the 1950s. In fact, the clothing might be from 1950! Never a speck of dirt or mud on him or the equipment. Even the spreader is clean. Only people I've ever heard of that wash their spreader out every day. When it starts to rust they get a new one.

To each their own, but I think the best word to describe them is "odd", maybe eccentric.

Must be nice, that's all I can say. If it doesn't rain at all for the next two weeks,I MIGHT be able to make a dent in it. Gonna be a few days before I can try anything.

Randy, there used to be an old boy here who was still PICKING his corn until this time of the spring. He then went back and planted this years crop, usually about this time of the year into early July. And he always had a pretty decent crop. It'll work out. I should finish planting the last of my silage corn today or tomorrow.....

I started June 6th in a year like this one time. Didn't go broke. It's just kinda frustrating waiting for the ponds in the fields to dry up.

I cut some hay early due to weed problem. Now if I can just get it dry. Didn't dry much Sunday or today. Didn't want to start this early, but weeds are taking over. Got two other fields on the early hit list too. Just need some drying weather.
