case 970 shifting issues

OK guys I came upon a 1975ish case 970. The tractor has about 4500 hoursand starts and runs like a top. However, when i push in the clutch it basically does nothing and feels like there is no pedal. It drives fine with the range in second and the power shift in second. If I try to go into reverse it stalls, and into any other power shift gear it moves but bogs down the engine. When I try to shift the four speed it grinds like crazy unless the engine is off. Another weird thing is the three point won't go up and seems stuck because I can't even get it to go down standing on it. Hydraulic fluid is good in the sight glass. Any ideas are appreciated. Thanks!

Post this down in the Case forum. There are guys there that know these things inside and out. I know just enought to be dangerous. LOL.

To start with there is no clutch in a Case tractor with PS tranny. The clutch pedel is hooked to a hyd, control valve. If it is run, even for a short time the hyd. clutch discs in the RPS34 unit will be destroyed. (may already be the situation). Problem usually starts as a stuck pilot valve, from contaminated oil. To check the unit you need a flowmeter and gauges, properly hooked to the tractor. Find a Case tech. familiar with this tranny and have him run the tests in sequence. As JDS said, hop down to the Case forum with further questions.
