degreasing old tractor

what is a good degreaser to spray on an old tractor that has many years of old hard grease on it? My idea is to spray it on and let it set, and spray again, until its soft enough to power wash. Your suggestions please. Thanks.

Johnski is correct.

Lots of oven cleaner, Gunk, what ever you can get that will emulsify the grime, grit, crude, that you"re trying to remove.

Blue thunder soap, we get it in 55 gallon drums, eats fly and bird crap, and Grease right off, you can watch it melt and run off, then power wash and its clean, we put it in a hand sprayer, and mix about 1 gallon of soap with 2 gallons of water. Directions say mix 100/1 so it"s really concentrate, isn"t hard on paint or clear coat either.

Sodium hydroxide, more commonly known as heavy duty oven cleaner. It will also do a pretty good job of removing paint. You can get it cheap at the dollar store, or if you prefer you can buy it dressed up and named fancy for ten times the money. Keep vinegar or lemon juice handy in case you get it on your hands. Another expensive way is any degreaser with di limonene. It cuts grease nicely but doesn't hurt paint.

I like to use parafin/kerosene as it is less oily than diesel but does not dry out as fast as petrol/gas. Lately I have been converted to using neat industrial car wash detergent in a pump spray can. Spray it on, scrub it in to the real heavy stuff and watch the oil run away. Power wash and repeat if necessary.

Don't use cheeeep oven cleaner takes 3 times as much Dawn dish liquid works good for grease, spray on scrub wash off.

Pressure wash it first, then what doesn't come off hit it with a degreaser some of the guys mentioned below. You'll save money by pressure washing first and blowing off the loose stuff that doesn't need a degreaser. This way you won't waste any degreaser.

Good advise John B.
I use cheap oven cleaner when I can find it and don't care about paint.
AFTER I pressure wash the majority off and let it dry.
I have also used Dawn dish soap in the same manner.
It cuts grease pretty well.
I haven't tried diesel, just because I don't have much around.
Petroleum products do cut other petroleum products.
We probably have all used them to clean parts.
Problem would seem to be that they would still leave petroleum
residue and you'd have to clean that off with something else
before you could paint.
Supposition of course, since I haven't tried it.
