ruts in rented field - how to correct

I have a good relationship with the land owner. He sold an old threshing machine tucked away in the far corner of the field to a local fellow. The buyer decided to show up with an IH 1066 loader and homemade float on a weekend when the area got hit with 110mm (4.5") of rain, and the land was already saturated. The buyer got stuck up to the rear axle, and needed the neighbour's skidder to help pull him out. The seller isn't happy; I'm furious; the seller says he'll return to fix it. If my hay equipment hits those ruts the wrong way... well I don't want to think what would happen.
Is discing the only way to smooth these ruts out once the soil dries a bit? Any ideas for fixing this problem are welcome.
thanks,
Jay

Jay, I made some bad ruts this past winter feeding hay. What I done was, put the blade on the tractor, backbladed the ruts back in as best I could. Then hooked onto the disc and disced them in. After that I put the seeder on the 4 wheeler and layed the fescue to it. Worked for me.

After it dried out a bit I went over some with the back blade set at its sharpest angle (I drove the tractor parallel to the ruts for the length of them). I didn't dig deep but let the blade run on the undisturbed grass. It rolled it in nicely. In spots there was even grass under there that took off. Don't go in too early or it will be clumps. Don't go in too late or it will be too hard. You want that to just roll in.

Oh, and don't get stuck while you are doing it.

Many years ago I rutted up my first year alfalfa turning with my combine doing corn. I disked it black with my 475 disk with wings up. It was all nice and level and pretty come spring.

Depends on how deep the ruts are.

Up to the axle, you may need to bring some fill in.

All the disk is going to do is flip loose dirt into the hole. IF the ruts aren't too deep it's not a big deal but if you're talking about holes there's a lot of packed dirt there that needs to be replaced.

My tree trimmer got stuck in my yard with his bucket truck and the wrecker got stuck too getting him out. I had ruts times 2. Had to add dirt, then used my 5000 pound lawn roller to flatten. Ground was very soft wet clay.
