Follow up to 14 ft truck deck to trailer question

Brought it home on my 1 ton blocked up on pallets to clear the
box. She was a bit big for the pickup bed but the 250 mile round
trip went fine.

Got home and started measuring:
1) The fold and tuck power tailgate is for a 42 to 48 bed height,
not 36" so she isn't gonna work well. The lower mount would be
6" off the ground. Power pack is good and has a nice 5 or 6"
cylinder though. Maybe power dovetail in the future.

2) It has a 7" frame under already on 34" center for truck frame
so I don't think I will do anything under that, too tall.

3) Knapheide make a nice bed, all the welds are well done, cross
members tightly spaced. Its not the lightest model, will be pretty
heavy for only a 14 ft trailer!

Your tire will be about 30" if you have 16" rims. That is 15" from center of axle. You need about 3" over the tires so you need 18" from center of axle. Subtract 2" for axle, 7" for main frame, 3-4" for crossmembers if you space your axles between them for a total of about 12-13". you will need about 5 or 6" more unless you want to cut the bed and put in fenders.
