Cutting hay

Happy for you that you have a good forecast. Ours is going by fast, forecast is for two good days then 40% chance of rain.

Wow! I just put my cows out to pasture yesterday, and unless the grass starts growing faster, I'll be feeding hay again in a week or so. East central MN I don't think I'll be starting to cut hay before the first of July.

I'm guessing first cut alfalfa on 5 June. Recent rains and cool temps and the hay is exploding.
What would you guys say the BEST temp for producing good alfalfa is? 75 or so?

WE hope to get started mowing Tuesday or wednesday here in S.E. Ohio. Then I can bale on the week end when I get home from work. Buddy is gonna mow for me and maybe bale if it cures sooner but I believe it's gonna be pretty heavy. Keith

We're ready here but its rained every day for over 2 weeks. Walked back though the fields and even though its a hill the water was over the toes of my boots.

S.E. Indiana , I will start mowing tues. , no rain till 30% sat. and in the 80s . Been wet and cool for the last 2 weeks . would liked to have got started week and a half or two weeks ago .

I mowed about 3 acres on Saturday to try out my new to me equipment, had pretty high humidity and been overcast since about 2 hours after I cut it. It looks like it might get washed today. The weather guessers kept taking rain out of the forecast so I figured mowing some hay was a sure fire way to get some rain, and we need it.

Still at least a month away here. Just getting all the animals onto pasture but am still feeding a little bit of hay to keep them full.

We're atleast 2 weeks out here. This weekend we're forking straw out of a barn free for the taking, as mom and dad don't have enough. Most of our fields we have left are too wet to work so no corn in yet. Even late corn works for us, but still a little nervous about our late start this year.

Most years corn is in and we're doing first crop by now.
