I have a 9n and the governor wasnt working so I took it off to see what was wrong with it.When I got it off "Wholly Cow" No governor inside!!! Someone before me had robbed it out and put the housing back on.By the way by the serial # its a 1939 model 9n.I have not gotten a governor complete with housing and all. This new one has a fitting on the back that I assume is an oil line. The old one just had a plug in it.Now where does this oil line hook up to? I am pretty sure that someone had just plugged the oil hole in the old housing.

With no pics available I'm taking a guess . I believe the replacement governor you picked up is for an 8n due to that threaded hole you mentioned . That threaded hole is a male type - correct ? Well that's where a tac/hr meter cable connects on an 8n . 9n tractors didn't come with a tac/hr meter . But in later 1951 the 8n started coming out with a tac/hr meter installed which of course used a governor with the mateing hole for the cable . HTH ! God bless , Ken.

Re post this on the Ford board. The early, 39's did not have an oil line to the governor, at some time 1940 or 1941 the governor was found to need oil to lubricate it. Some one there will give you the info better than I .joe

As Joe said, the 9N/2N/8N forum has a lot of knowledgeable guys
who don't often venture up to this site. They may help more.
Early N's didn't have an oil line attached, older ones did.
I think all can be retrofitted with it though.
The line T's under the oil filter, runs around the front and
drains back through the distributor.
I can take some pictures of mine tomorrow if that will help.
