Lawn mower valve troubles

I have a Huskee brand 54" twin cylinder that wasn't running right. started tinkering and found it had bent push rods on one cylinder. Couldn't figure out why. Well looked and here the valve runs inside a tube that I am guessing is supposed to be the valve guide and not move. Well it is getting pushed back out after some run time. We mow about 2 acres and we need the tractor. Can valves be bought for these? Its a Briggs and Stratton engine. I don't know what else to do and dont wanna buy a replacement engine. It runs great other then the valve.

Take it apart and knurl the outside of the guide. (a lathe operation that makes the pattern of diamond bumps on the handle of an SK wayne ratchet. Do it light and see if you can press it into the bore a little. Put epoxy on it and put it back where it needs to be to run. Jim

A common problem with the Briggs twins in low cost mowers. New rods, secure the guides, run decent oil and let it cool after mowing before you shut down.

I have 2 briggs V-twins, one on a husky 48 in one on a troy 46 inch. When I first got them, I noticed they used a little oil. So I reduced the RPM's, no more oil problem an no bent push rods to date. Both engines have about 450 hours.

Someone else just posted a bent push rod recently, either on here or tool talk. Check the archives.

Fuller, you might try this site https://www.mymowerparts.com/contact_us.php for parts - I have never used them but they are supposed to have parts for old equipment.

I sometimes buy from partstree.com. Very good company to work with. You will need your engine model# and type#.

I had trouble with my Ariens last fall. I had put Marvel Mystery Oil in the gas. It cleared up and runs great. No more backfire and easy starting! It s a Mystery to me.

Back fires are actually gas firing in the muffler.Shutting off an engine at high speed does it.It is better to let an engine idle before turning of the ignition.
