My second boy works for a deomlision company, and they where taking the roof off a school gym. He was climbing off the roof, about 20' up, and some how fell to the ground. Broke his right leg above the knee. Had surgery ,with some pins put in, few days in hospital. Brought him home 2 days ago. NO cast! Seems odd to me, but thats how they do it now. He is walking with a walker, and taking pain pills. I think he is lucky he didn't break his neck. Oh yah , He is 22. Bruce

I'm glad he didn't get hurt worse!
At least at his age he'll bounce back faster than I would!
Best of luck to you both.

had a piece of steel fall on me from overhead crane is machine shop when i was 19, pins and screws, didnt slow me down til in 40's , now 55 and feel it everyday, tell him rehab exactly how they want, keep records of injury and treatment, workers comp was supposed to pay for medical treatment for life on mine, when i was 46 and submitted claim for MRI , told me cant find a file of injury, no problem , produced my copy, they copied it and good until they lose it again

If he has a rod in the femur with screws at hip and knee, make sure to get screws at knee removed asap after leg is healed. Those damn screws almost poked through the skin on mine and some others I know that had it done. Waiting too long means lots of bone builds around the screws and removal is tougher. Getting those 2 screws out was way worse than the broken leg and initial repair. MK

Pinning is the way to go. Wife broke both bones below the knee. Didn't want pins and screws....was in some kind of a cast for 18 weeks. leg still hurts after 8 years.

Tell him to behave himself with the visiting nurses and Physical Therapy girls. I ran into my PT girl at the Auto Parts store last week and she was telling the counter guys that she could wrestle me down. I'm sure she could too, but I don't think that I would mind a whole lot.

Wife had the plate and screws taken out of Her her this week. Doctor did not want to admit they were backing out. When He finally looked at the xray he finally admitted it. Been on and off infected since they put it in in Sept.

Man, 20 feet is a big drop.

I've often heard anything over 15 feet is the kill zone - your chances when falling from that height start to favor not surviving, and they rapidly decline the higher you go.

Good luck to him, hope he heals well and fast.

A gal who's a fellow Insurance Inspector for the same company I work for was in a car accident a week ago and suffered a broken femur (thigh bone) and several broken ribs. Some idiot blew through a red light and broad-sided her. I understand they pinned her femur.

I'll be in a conference call with our District Manager this afternoon to develop a plan to get her work done. Since her territory adjoins mine, I suspect I'm going to be busier than usual for awhile.

Hope he heals quick, as others said he's got age on his side. Had an issue a year ago that had me end up with a piece of titanium in my jaw (whole other story) Dr. said it would likely be $3000 or so. Told wife when I go have funeral director take it out so she could sell it! LOL. Will this stuff set off security equipment at the airport??

(quoted from post at 10:49:03 05/24/13) That's gotta hurt. Hope he heals fast and can get back to work soon. Jim
our Son is lucky to come away with just a broken leg.

Another really lucky guy was a fella i worked with a long time ago while we were demolishing an old church back in Europe.
They fella was chainsawing a big ceiling beam while the stupid mutt was standing on the side that had to come down.
He fell at least 30' together with the beam and the still runnin saw down on the trash below,..he had only a damaged ego and a few bruises and scratches and was sore for the next couple days,..the saw though was history.

he is LUCKY ,, But I have been also,, and many more than just him and me ,, but some are not so lucky ,,2 yrs ago this month we buried 1st wifes brother,, he fell from scaffold at jeffboat some 30 ft,,, his head struck a protruding bolt on the way down ,,he had a open casket,,the poor guy never knew what he hit or even when he hit the ground ... just know that GOD expects the Son to make a difference ,... but always remember , sometime God calls us home in a instant...
