OT 2006 Toyota Hy-Lander

My daughter has a 2006 Toyota Hy-Lander 4 wheel drive, she loves the car. I am starting not to like it because I have to fix it. The lastest is the heat schield over the muffler corroded and fell off. Would it hurt to leave it off? It looks like the muffler and pipes would have to come off to replace it because the bolts are above the muffler.

The shield above almost every muffler and cat is there to keep the floor from getting too not. Leave it off and you do risk the chance of catching the carpet on fire. I have seen it happen above the cat. They will get HOT.

yeah if it were over the catalytic converter I'd say definitely replace it.

the muffler - I guess it depends on how much clearance and air flow around it there is.
But you're probably fine - but I'd keep an eye on it for a while. Feel the floor after a long trip, etc.

check with Toyota...that mite be covered under a recall or federal emission guidelines if its the cat shield depending on mileage.

Some heat shields come with a couple big hose clamps that go around the muffler. If you can find some clamps and you got the old shield and you don't want to lower the exhaust.
