Asparagus grew leaps and bounds today.

I have never seen our Asparagus grow this much in one day.
i posted a pic of this bed yesterday discussing using salt to control weeds. We had our first hot and humid day here today. Temps in mid 80s and dew point hovering just above 70. Sprinkles, but no heavy rain. The Asparagus grew 12-16" today. Many stalkes are the size of my thumb. Stalks were tender as could be. 6 meals go into the freezer tomarrow , plus some will go on the grill for supper tomarrow night. We just dip the stalks in a little Italian dressing, and throw them on untill they brown just a little. Good eating with either some grilled beef or pork.

looking good ACG.

I'm always amazed at how fast the garden will grow this time of year. We are getting our first squash, tomatoes, and peppers now. Been picking spinach for weeks. We planted early (and could have lost it all to two late frosts), but it has paid off.

Looks good! We have some wild stuff in the road ditch that is surrounded by broam grass, s it tends to grow skinny and tall. On our first hot (105) day it shot right up almost as good as yours. Sure was good.

Mine has been growing like crazy the last week or so. We froze 6 packages yesterday alone. My favorite is creamed with a simple cream sauce over thick slices of homemade bread toasted for breakfast. Better than biscuits ansd gravy, and I like that too.

Looks tasty. Our asparagus is growing in leaps and bounds too but not quite that fast. When it's six inches tall it starts branching out. Are there different varieties? Ours is greener than yours. The patch was there when my folks moved here in 1948. Marilyn just harvested the second batch of the spring but it went to my son and his family. We alternate and this time we have to imagine the taste till we harvest again. LOL Jim

There isn"t much I wont eat but Asparagus is one I can"t. I"ve tried it every way known to the elders of my family with the same results. My mother always praised me for appreciating everything she cooked, but she gave up on Asparagus. Doctor says my body doesn"t need it so quit trying to like it :)
