Carpenter Bees

Our pole barn is being overtaken by carpenter bees. They do not seem to bite or cause much trouble, but they are digging into the barn pretty good and we would like to get rid of them. So what is the best way to kill these things? We have used the rake and even shot some with the bee bee gun.

From what I have researched, a sponge soaked in some insecticide that you put into the holes at night will help.

Any better/other ideas?

Thanks and hope everyone is having a good planting season! We are almost done with beans!

You can really do a number on them with a badmitten racket.

Alternatively, a couple of drops of gasoline on a ball of cotton in the holes at night will do.

I usually spray wasp killer in the holes.

I had em pretty bad and learned that almost anything will kill them including WD-40. Just a shot in each hole will do it.
You will have to keep at though cause the eggs will hatch next year. My building has gotten pretty good after a few years of spraying.

Piece of bamboo, use it as a moth ball inserter. just jamb the moth ball onto each hole. the vapor does the work.

I mix borax into water and use a backpack srayer to apply. It seems to be good for 2-3 years and is relatively benign. Rackets, bats, hats, sticks, and such require constant attention and these things will out last you. Borax is fire and forget. It can be mixed with stain too if you"d like.

I posted on this subject a few days ago. Bayer brand multipurpose insecticide works for me with a pump up sprayer. Make a mist where they are flying and let them fly into it. Takes several applications to get the majority of them. After a few days you don't have much to shoot at.

I mix sevin powder and vaseline together, put in a tube and pump a little in each hole but deep enough that they can get some on there boudy. Seems to kill them for a while even though its not automatic.
