I want a quick hitch...what should I look for?

I'm wondering how much easier life would be with a quick hitch on the back of my ford 641?

Between the bush hog, box blade and scoop I'm spending allot of time behind my tractor trying to hook up....throw in the newly developed art of attaching the stabilizer bars and I'm really starting to think a quick hitch would make life easier.

Is there any particular brands or designs that are better than others and what should I expect to pay? Any advise or suggestions would be appreciated.

The one I have is awfully heavy, moves implement back at least half a foot. Changes the geometry of everything. Don"t use it much anymore.

Dave, I have quick hitches on all my tractors. I'm not sure how the smaller ones are built but it's always been my preference to use a quick hitch that you did not have to latch once the implement is attached to the tractor. All you have to do is pick up the implement and it latches itself. Maybe they all do that anymore but on larger tractors they didn't all used to be that way. Mike

There MAY be some issues with picking up some of your attachments. If access to the pin area for the upper link is blocked from below, so the upper hook on the quick hitch can"t rise up to the pin from the bottom you can"t pick up that particular implement without "mods", or perhaps not at all.

Just make sure everything You have is the same Category. I have both 1, & 2 implements. A quick hitch is just in the way since they only work on a single category around here.

i used to have one and sold it, the problem i had was not only does it move the implement back and change the rear weight bias of the tractor, [ you cant pick up as much in a scoup without the front wheels flapping in the breeze]but my category 1 implements span about 60 years in age, and some of them wont fit, while others did, i set all the implements on pallets and use a 4 foot rock bar to adjust for those little backing up errors, and just use the original 3 point setup

First thing to do is measure to see if all your
implements are the same spacing for the lift arms.
If not, forget about a quick hitch.

I have cat. 2 quick hitches on my tractors and I would not be without them!! If the implements do not fit the quick hitch the cutting torch and the weldor come out and suddenly the implement fits! If the front of the tractor gets light I add front weights. The frames on my 3-pt blades are extended so the blade can be reversed without removing blade from tractor! We also have quick hitches on our loaders and both ends of the backhoe. Armand

I'm sorry to be picking on you, but how can a guy with a handle like stick welding say that. We have a cat 1 quick hitch from JD. It's no different from one from TSC, or Rural King. I just set in and made all our small tools fit. Some were a challenge. The Land pride finish mower was the worst. And it is a new one. Somebody should tell them, its 2013. All the King-Cutter stuff we have works fine.

Some could be modified but others would be a PIA. I have no idea how much fabrication experience the OP has but I never found it that hard to hook up implements. Having a pry bar or long 2x4 to shift the implement makes it a lot easier to line everything up.

You're wasting your money on a Cat 1 quick hitch. It's a great idea.... but Cat 1 implements do not follow ANY standard geometry in terms of width for the lower link pins and even less conformity for the top link height relative to the lower links... so, if you buy a quick hitch you'll just end up unhooking that before you attach your implements.
Now... Cat 2 stuff is fairly well standardized, although not perfectly. By the time you get to Cat 3 it's pretty well spot on.

When I was younger and my Dad brought one home I thought it was the silliest thing. As I got older I learned to appreciate all labor saving devices. I am going to get a hydraulic top link next. A little story. Went to take a pallet of seed from the pickup(not 60 bags) jacked the little JD right off the ground. Drove over and backed up and got the tiller, without getting off, and lifted the pallet right off and put it in the shed! Sorry for picking on you. Vic
