Done planting, Kubota made it another year!!

Got done last week, the Kubota made it through again. I use a M125 front wheel assist on a JD 1760 12RN planter with liquid fert. Most people don't think it will work at all, but when the rain was coming I pushed her up to 5.3mph for awhile(usually 4.8). My 20/20 monitor said I was only doing slightly worse at 5.3 which surprised me. It also used only 31 gallons planting 115 acres one day, planting corn with liquid on. What does a "normal sized" tractor use per acre? I thought between a quarter and third of a gallon is pretty darn good with this one. Sure get a lot of weird looks with this set up!!

Was out driving a few days ago - paying property taxes - and saw a pair of 6 row planters. One was pulled by a big Case tractor, duals, looked to be 150 - 175 hp.

Other one was pulled by a JD tractor, dualed, front wheel assist. Looked to be a tad bigger than the Case.

Wow.

I just got a 6 row with dry fert, and am pulling it with my Ford 5200, around 60 hp. Been working fine.

Did run it out of fuel the other day, guess I should get the fuel gauge fixed some day..... 135 acres on about 2 fills, so something like half a gallon an acre, probably less as dont know really what I started with, and only planted 7 acres on the last fill.

We are pulling a Kinze 6 row no-till, trash whippers, spike closing wheels and drag chains. With a 4320 Compact Hydro John Deere, 50 hp. It uses just under 1/2 gal to the acre. Figure the hydro hurts it at least 20%. Set the cruse on 5 mph. going up a wet hill the RPM's will come down but the speed will still be on 5 mph. We have a 126GX Kubota for our big tractor.

Nice picture. Are your tires running on the rows? We
had to set ours in. Had to turn the cup in on the
front and rear. On the front had to cut off the
bearing adjusting bolt on the top of the axle. Then
put in bushings to keep the tires from hitting the
hood. Still turns plenty sharp because of Kubota's
front end speeding up and helping you turn.

I moved them in so they are between 30" rows, front and back. The only bad part is I'm getting ready to hook it up to the batwing and I'd like for it to be wider when sideways on a ditch, like how wide it was when I bought it. Makes me pucker a little now! How do you like using that sped up front axle feature? I don't use it, was afraid if it went bad it would mess up everything. I'd like to have the suspended front axle feature that's on the new ones, I think that would be awesome.

dad retired from farming 25 yrs ago but I've helped no-till double crop soybeans with an AC 8-30 planter pulling it with a super M all day long in 3rd gear.

Yup, the tall 5000, bigger engine than the early version, '75
model, 16 speed.

The 5000 series went through a lot of changes with the 5000
logo on its side.

Nice tractor.

The speed up is kinda scary at first. Today is really the first day I have driven it working. We are just pulling a 10 ft Great Planes no-till drill, it will turn right around, putting the tire just inches from the tongue. I was going in 8th Med range. 7.5 mph at 2100. Hitting the rpm switch to slow down to 1250 rpm, instead of shifting 3 times. It has plenty of grunt to come around on the ends. Said it was using 50 to 65 % of its power, and using 4.5 gal per hr. Electronics tells you everything, but it really makes no difference you sre still going to be our there till the job is done. There were no tractors in our district with the suspended front axle. I have drove a 8430 JD with active seat and suspension on front. Really really nice. also expensive. The 126GX was over 30000 cheaper than a 6130 JD. Saw on the news the Yen had fallen 28% compared to the dollar. Figure that is the reason Kubota's are so cheap.

Thats pretty efficient!!! I just wrapped up too last Thursday an hour before it started to rain! Feels pretty darn good. I gotta JD 4020 with a JD 7000 8 row 30 planter, when planting corn I average a little over .5 gal an acre and thats with applying dry fertilizer. Soybeans I average .33 gal an acre.
