farmall a wont stay runnin??

i have a 1946 farmall A that only runs for 5 min. then shuts off..no gunk in sediment bowl..cleaned fuel line to carb..took carb apart cleaned...shined up contact points in dist.cap and rotor..still only runs for 5 maybe 10 min. then off she goes ..it will fire right back up but wont stay runnin??? prob. just started...been a great runner ???? puzzled??? need input!! thanks brian

Gas cap not venting, check for fuel in carb as soon as it quits? Bad coil or condenser, check for spark as soon as it quits?

There may be a screen behind the tube fitting where your gas line connects to the Carb that's full of crud. Hal

I vote for gas cap not venting or the screen in the sediment bowl full of something. just letting enough gas through to run a short time. Something is stopping the fuel flow. first try running without the gas cap off.

As with any gas engine trouble shoot.
#1 make sure you have a good blue white spark that jumps a 1/4 inch gap the moment it dies.
#2 make sure you have a good steady flow of gas out of the carb drain plug for a few minutes. Catch it to look for dirt/water etc.
#3 check the air cleaner and make sure it is clean and has oil not dirt and water in it.
5 minutes to me says gas flow problem be it the gas cap or some junk in the line or filters

Sounds like the coil or condensor is getting hot then breaking.might want to look at that also.
