2013 hay prices

What prices are you guys going to set for 1st cutting hay this year? I know demand is still very high and probably will continue to be out if fear from last year. I only have about 20 acres but sell most if it. I don't want to get greedy, but you have to make your money on the good years to make up for the bad ones. I figured I'd try and make what I could if it were corn at $5. Looking for some opinions.

Where are you located? Here in NW PA, I was selling at the bargain-basement price of $2 per small square last year, just to get business. I live in the mountains, if it makes a difference. Then over the winter my dad called me (also in NW PA, but a little farther west, near the OH border) and told me he's seen hay in the local "moneysaver" for $4-$6 per small square. Holy cow!
So I dunno. I used to sell my hay for $2.50 out of the field, but then the economic crunch took hold, and I dropped it to $2 just to get business. Then there's the Marcellus Shale, which went 'soft' here in my neck of the woods last year, but I hear it's picking up again - they need mulch, I just need to find the right connections.

I'm in east central SD and $175-200 a ton seems to be about right. If you look hard it can be had cheaper and there's always someone asking more. I have had the same customer for 8 years now. He pays a fair price so he knows I won't sell else where. Could I get more? Sure. Do I want the hassle? No. He takes everything, good and bad and has never complained. He knows how to load himself if I'm not around and a check is always in the mail on time.

wish it made money sence to run back and get a load from you guys, im paying 15 to 18 a bale for small square hay out here

I'm selling 4X5 fertilized, weed sprayed, irrigated last years Coastal Bermuda to the horse lovers for $90 per bale. I just loaded 2 bales about 30 minutes ago.

Last year I sold my small squares for $3.50. This year they will probably go UP as fuel, twine, and fertilizer have all went up.

Here in South Central Ohio I've been paying $5.00 per small square, delivered and stacked in my mow (w/ my bale elevator). Cheaper for me than going to get it myself, just me and the wife to put it up if we did it that way and we are getting too old to put up all that we need (about 1,000 - 1,200 a year), and we both work full time in the big city so there's a time factor too . And I think I'm contributing to the local economy... small farmer who hires some help to do "our" hay.
