Many of you have probably seen this poster before. It's one that has been well published I know.

That's John Deere standing with a cane watching as the man plows with a JD Sulky Plow.

John Deere died in 1886. Long before the Waterloo Gas Engine Works was bought and a tractor developed.
 
I think the plow was a "Gilpin" model riding plow built by John Deere. It was named after Gilpin Moore, who was John Deere's factory superintendent. The "hoop" over the beam gives it away.
