Size didn't mean a thing to this mother squirrel taking on this Lab. Hal

Remember, when betting on a dog fight, it's not the size of the dog in the fight, it's the size of the fight in the dog(or squirrel in this case).

I had a good dose of "not coming between a mother and her baby" when I was trying to marry my wife. I told the mother that her daughter was of age, we were in love, I would take care of her, and she couldn't stop us. WRONGGGGGGG!!!!!!!

We did manage to get and stay married, but it was a bumpy ride and took a couple of years.

Course, being farmers and ranchers, we know about that!

I like the last picture too, "But I just wanted someone to play with?"

If that dog had been a terrier instead of a lab the baby might not have been so lucky.

My cousin and I tried catching a squirrel once. That dog was way out matched. It is fortunate that nice looking dog did not get cut to ribbons. Paul

Squirrels are pretty gutsy. I used to have one that hung out in my shop- It was sitting on a shelf, chattering at me, and I decided to see how close I could get before he ran off. Each time I moved closer, he moved a little toward me, and chattered louder. It soon became clear that I would actually be able to touch him, when he jumped on my head and started ripping me a new one. Discretion being the better part of valor, I quietly backed off.

I shot a squirrel with a slingshot one time, boy did it make him mad. He came down the gate he was sitting on right after me, I rolled the truck window up and left the area!

Those are great pictures.A good friend of mine is the police chief in a small town, he pulled into the police stration only to see three bear cubs scurry up a tree next to the drive way next around the building came mom mad mad mad dave stayed in the cruiser he finaly decided he didn't need anything in the station after all.

I've also had the "squirrel on the head" experience. When I was a kid my dad for some reason "adopted" three gray squirrels. He built a cage about 6x6x6 with a tree trunk with limbs inside. He would sit in the cage with them and allow them to crawl around on him, searching for peanuts or pecans in his shirt pockets. (Yeah, as I write this even I will concede how squirrely this all sounds.)

One day I went into the cage and one of the squirrels dropped down from overhead and latched onto my head. I instinctively grabbed him and he instinctively grabbed me, biting through my thumb, all the while re-arranging my scalp.

They disappeared one day. I never missed them.

In the 1980's we found a baby squirrel in the road. My wife had came to pick me up from work and had seen something in the road. She didn't know what it was until we went back the same route and here was that baby squirrel. I was in in the passenger seat and climbed out and picked it up. My wife stopped and said she wanted to hold that squirrel. We had that squirrel for a number of years. We had her mounted after she died. She thought a lot of my wife as she fed and played with her. Surprised you didn't get bit. Had a son at school one day and a squirrel had shimmied up a light pole....just a pole with one light and reflector. He thought he's rescue it and shimmy up and get it.

Wrongggggggggg!!!!

I don't remember what we did to treat his wounds with regards to rabies and all, but he didn't do that again.

You did a really great job of capturing the events. Nice pics.

We have started getting squirrels around here the last few years. The other day a couple were courting out at the end of the driveway. They are cute and all, but so far they have chewed up $500 worth of wiring on my '11 Silverado which wasn't covered by warranty. So now I park it out in the barn well away from the trees.
