1550 Oliver diesel workin

Well yesterday I tried the GT no-till drill to see if the 1550 would pull it or not and it did just fine. However I did find a problem with the ground ware I had been driving on it to get to the fence line to clean it out. So I figured I would hook the IH 11 shank chisel plow to brake it up and disc it up before it rains again. Now I know its to big for the 1550 but I didn't have that much to do and I could go slow. Got in the field put it in 3 low started moving and let it down and it was going easy, Cool! Till I looked back to see the chisel plow sliding on the ground not going in! WTF! Well it took 5 passes to get it in 8 inches and the ground broke into chunks bigger then softballs. The field is wet but the ends are hard as a rock. After I got it broke up I hooked the MM 13.5 ft disc and harrow up and started disking it up, It sure didn't take long for the disc to shine up in that hard ground. The old Oliver got a work out today for sure, 1st good work out of the year. Don't beat me up to bad for the size of the chisel plow, If I didn't think it would pull it I would not have hooked it up. Its amazing how hard that ground was, No wonder the drill didn't wont to go in the ground. Bandit

Its allways worked for me. This Oliver 1550 diesel has allways pulled more than it should have. The old MH 44 diesel we had years ago would pull 4x16 with no problem just like the 1550 dose now. Its funny how dry and hard this ground is considering if you get in to the corn stocks I would have been stuck, Its what wet. Worst of all there calling for rain tonight and on into Tuesday so there wont be any field work or planting for a good while. Aint farmin fun? Bandit

Banditfarmer I hope you post some pics of the GT drill working behind the 1550. I know Moore says it needs a min. of 60 hp so if it is a strong runner I think you will do just fine. On another note all my beans are in and breaking the surface. Regreasing the bearing was the best thing I could of done last summer and I only lost 4 bearings this spring on my Moore drill. Frank
