3010 stalling out

I have seen a lot on the internet about 3010's that stall in the middle of the field, wont start hot, just runs poorly. I have one of these! You can go across the field under load and will run good cold but after warms up, you might as well start walking for home. One mechanic says its ignition so I put new point and cond. every year, doesent help, another mechanic say carb problems. Alot of people have the same problems but nobody really says what fixes them. any help would be appreciated.

not at all familiar with that tractor, but if it is stalling out when hot and will start back up when cold, check the coil. Also may want to post this up on the John Deere site.

there are guys with more knowledge down on the jd forum but I would start out by isolating the problem to fuel or spark.

when this happens check to see if you have a strong blue spark at each cyl if you don't I would rework the whole ignition system with quality parts. if you have good spark then start looking at your fuel system. My JD2010 gas requires carb adjustment as the seasons change to run right.

methodical trouble shooting is key.

(quoted from post at 17:56:56 05/15/13) Is it a Marvel Schebler carb? Switch to a Zenith. Common problem.

So does that mean I should replace all my M-S carbs with Zenith? There is no way of repairing them? Just throw them all away?

I think JMS/.MN is specifically talking about the carbs on this specific JD. On my JD 2010 the parts I needed to repair my MS carb exceeded the cost of a new zenith. Definitely not like the MS carb on my ford which is easy and cheap to fix.

We had one and never did figure it out. Put up with it for 15 years. There is an electronic ignition upgrade available but we just moved on to a diesel. Never could isolate the problem.

had one that did the same thing, after many things of trail and error I found that the exhaust manifold had a small crack in it and when it got hot it took out the intake gasket. After you ran it a while the intake would suck to much air and it would quit untill it cooled off. Fought that sucker for a year untill I luckily came across the crack. Also when I had carb problems I sent it to burry carb service and havent had a problen since, hope this helps Bob
