Has anyone ever tried using 24-D for a pre emergent? The label lists it as preplant and pre emergence (2 qts acre) but i didn't know if it would kill weeds as they come through the ground like lexar does. i've used 24-D over the top of corn before, I normally use Lexar but 24-D is much much cheaper per acre!!!

2-4D will stunt or kill some broad leaf and a few grassy plants if applied pre-emerge if conditions are right. Not a good pre-emerge at any price. I would think it worth the extra expense to control grassy weeds as well as broad leaf. Check with Dow Chemical to see if they have a cheaper product. You will get best reccomendations if you tell them specific weeds you want to control.
If cost must be at minium with no till and you have mostly broad leaf weeds, you might consider planning ahead by preparing the rows for planting then hope for rain to sprout weeds before planting. You could then use 2-4-D to kill young weeds and band seed bed with pre-emerge

(quoted from post at 08:40:28 05/14/13) Not trying to grab the post but, how does it do on Poison Ivy?

Applied in conjunction with Glyphosphate, it knocks it flat. Usually just one application unless you are talking huge 1" plus vines.

It is not good to use 2,4-D as a pre-emergent. It is very commonly used with a burndown treatment and used to be used commonly as a post-emergent treatment, although it can really "ding" some varieties of corn. If you put it down on a crop that hasn"t emerged and you get a rain to put it in the seed zone you can serverely affect the germination of your crop. Not a good plan by any means. If you have weeds get them killed BEFORE you plant. Mike
