Need to disable 00 buick quickly

Heres the short version: mom and dad both early dementia. Still able to live at home. I took their keys some time ago... or so I thought. Mom found a set of keys and has them in her purse and trithfully probably has no idea they're there. I need to secretly disable their car. I don't have time right now to go through the whole tearful argument of taking them away, AGAIN. The batt is under the seat, so not so easy. Is there a fuse I can pull? quickly?

Thats fine, but I need to do this quickly for now. I sneaked out and pulled the ign fuse.

I am not sure, but isn"t there a gas switch in the trunk that that you can hit to shut off the gas.maybe somebody else can tell you how to do it.good luck!

Find the inside of car fuse panel, pull the ecm or ign fuse. or under the hood, in the relay box, pull the fuel pump relay. The lid should have the label for the fuses and relays. There might be an ign fuse there also.

I'm trying to ease them into this. Its tough to give up those things and I had a hard time in the fall when I told them not to drive anymore. I collected all the keys (or so I thought). I can't just march in and tell them this is how it is. Some old folks don't mind but others see the car as their last step of independance. In some ways it would be easier if their minds were more gone because then they wouldn't know what was going on but they're still a little alert and have feelings.

Looks like the battery would be dead by now if it hasn't been driven since last fall. Don't know where you are but do you have something like Dial A Ride that comes around and picks up older folks to take them shopping and whatever, or maybe you take them, that way they could still have their independence if they know their way back home. My mother gave up the car when she felt she wasn't a safe driver anymore. Sounds like you are a very caring person, Hope things work out for you, hang in there.

You need to tell them they can no longer drive. It's not easy to do but must be done ASAP. Make the time to tell them! What could be more important than looking after the people that brought you into the world? You don't want them to call someone to fix the car and you have to tell them anyway.

I remember the day my Dad told me he had just done the hardest thing he ever had to do. He had told his Dad he had to quite driving. He also said that some day I would have to tell him the same thing. That was a hard day. Next will be my kids turn....

Agree with the fuse or some other electrical "fix". The valve stem idea... your parents will end up cruising around on a flat tire, just like an episode of Cops. Saw the same thing with my grandpa a few years back.

Luckily and FINALLY, my grandpa got in a small fender bender and the police called my dad, my dad told the officer to the my grandpa he was no longer allowed to drive. My grandpa just said "OK" and that was it, he was done. For two years he had fought my dad and aunt over it.

Good luck, its not an easy thing to do.

Pull something that if some mechanic checks it out he can see that it was intentionally disabled. The neighbors kids (grown up and living away) had disabled the old folks car but the old folks called a mechanic and when he discovered the problem he was astute enough to call the kids and figured it all out.

A couple of you guys need to catch up with the auto tech of the 2000"s, namely "waste fire" ignition systems with coil packs or "coil-on-plug" ignition systems.

Either way there"s NO rotors to remove or coil wires vs. park plug wires to interchange!
