OT - fiberglass rod falling from my 'burb, what is it

This rod is fiberglass and slightly in front of the rear axle and appears to go straight up into who knows where. Not sure why it is falling out or what it's purpose might be. First thought is that it might be part of the auto-leveling system. For now I just cut it off.

Any insight appreciated.

Actually, that was along the lines of my first thoughts as well. After I could not remove it by hand, I cut it off and the remainder sure seems like it belongs there. Stretches quite a ways up. Seems like it is about under the third seat.

That my friend is a fiberglass stake you are some one ran over. give it a pull and that will end the mystery. Jim

Kirk, I like Ted's answer. In fact here in the Condo's they use similar markers for the Snow Plow guys, on the edge of our driveway's.

However, is that the fuel tank that it is laying against ? If so that line may be part of the Evaporative emission system. Could be vent tube from the valve on top of fuel tank ? If so I would have a garage or Dealer check it out. If it would be connected to that system you may see a "Check Engine Light " come on.

Good luck, Bill

No way it would still be clean and bright if it had been up in there since the car was new.

Looks to me more like a piece of fiber optic cable. Probably picked it up somewhere on the road - and it lodged there. Last time I had wife"s car in for service they removed a stick the size of my wrist and as long as my arm wrist to elbow from under the car.

What year is the Sub ? What options does it have as far as back-up warning system etc ?? Is that fiberglas strands where you cut it? Give us some more info.

Was the outer jacket hollow? Looking at the end that's on the ground, in the first photo, it looks like buffered fiber optic cable protruding out the end. Our old Caddy has fiber between the tail lights and indicators inside above the rear window. You can see, in the rear view mirror, when your brake/turn light, left or right, is working (or not).

looks like a snow marker, that you or someone driving, backed up over, wedged it, and pulled away with. use rubber gloves when handling, that is wicked cheap fiberglass, sticks in your skin real easy!

You guys are probably right about the marker, it is just a solid piece of fiberglass. Not sure when/where we might have picked it up, but I can tell you when we heard it dragging yesterday.

FWIW, Burb is a 2001 3/4 ton with just about everything that was available at that time, but probably not any fiber-optics.

Where it is hanging down it is just so perfectly vertical and only heard it yesterday just seemed like it had been released from above. It is really wedged in tight, I cut it off so it was not dragging but sure can't get it out.
