This is the view from the west end of our shop last night...MAY 4, 2013.

It did melt a fair bit today - but we still have a ways to go to get rid of the 15 inches of snow we got on Thursday.

On north and south sides of our buildings the snow is probably 2-1/2 to 3 deep where the snow load off the roofs landed.

Beautiful, But sometimes i wonder how "You Guys" stand the snow for that long. Then I am sure Yall wonder how we can stand 100deg. Heat with 100% humidity. How about gnats and mosquitoes do you have those? Stormy and raining all day today here.

It amazes me to see these pcitures of snow in Iowa and Minnesota. We've had no snow for atleast 2 weeks in Ontario and nice weather most of that time. Just got some barley planted yesterday.

Fields are starting to melt off UP here but there is still 2-3 foot in the woods. Spent the afternoon snowmobiling in the woods with some friends and it was fun sledding in May.

Just a few snow banks in some of the denser groves around west central Minn and the farmers are planting a few acres of corn. Darn cold though so most are waiting for soil to warm some.

No snow up here at Walker but PLENTY of ice on the lake. May walk out and wet a line next Saturday. Crazy cold and sick of burning wood thats for sure. Hope it melts fast for you folks.

Sweetfeet ,
Here in Central Iowa , the snow is gone ..except the piles that was push off a sidewalk or something like that .. but we only got 3-5 inches ...

Over on the western side of the state, we didn't get any snow. I was digging corn stalks all day friday and saturday.
Moisture would be nice, but you can keep the snow!

Dalet,

While the moisture is good, I think farmers around here are starting to stress about getting into the fields. That is the one thing we do not miss about farming -- the WORRY about too much or too little rain or sun.

It melted way down yesterday. Mostly down to just remaining snow piles where it got pushed to clear the driveway.

tomtirediron,

Still ice on the lake? Man, I thought we had it bad.

Would you really walk out on the ice in May? I won't even do that in January... the cracking sounds freak me out!

pete 23,

Yeah, I feel bad for the farmers this year. But if they can get rolling on corn later this week - then they should be fine. If we start getting rains, then it is going to get a little dicey for them. Hope they can get crops planted soon.

chevytaHOE5674,

I would think you would be soaking wet by the end of the day! Would be fun though.

farmerboy,

Yes, and the wierdest thing is that it came from the south and west... NOT from your direction.

RBnSC,

Sometimes I wonder how we stand the snow for so many months too! LOL

I'd probably move a couple states south someday... except my husband would not want to do that.

You are right. Major heat and humidity would not be our thing. Last couple summers we have had some long hot, humid streaks in the mid 90's. We both hated it.

Skeeters... they will be coming soon. In summer if we are out in the shop late at night - we close the doors so they mostly cannot get in. Oddly, they seem to grow even bigger and are more prolific in northern MN - the "lake country"...get about as big as B-1 Bombers up there. LOL.

Thartiga,

Glad you got your crops planted.

We'd have preferred NOT to look at any more snow. :)

The Red,

Yeppers. Little, old full two-story. Though kind of small, I could not imagine living anywhere else. Lotta memories in this little ol' shack.

Would like to add-on a main floor bedroom and bathroom so when we get old(er) we won't have to deal with all the stairs. Currently bedrooms and bathroom upstairs... laundry is in the basement - can't imagine doing that in 20-30 years at 70 or 80 years of age.
