What Happened?

What happened to e-bay tractors? Tried eBay Modern, Antique and Machinery - all three have nearly all construction stuff. Clicked thru 17 pages of stuff that I hardly recognized, saw about three farm related items and bored out!

I couldn't understand it either Ag & Forest has almost nothing in it. It is all under heavey eq.

I am assuming it has to do with fees. I sold a couple cars several years back. Clearly listed them as non-running parts vehicles, but since I put them in the "car" section I got tagged with a $250 seller fee.

I sold the cars for $300 BiN and ended up giving almost all of it to ebay. Lesson learned.......

My biggest pet peve is 12,000 manual listings you have to look through to find something........

Just came from there and can't seem to find any old tractors or any equipment. Thought it was me, guess not!

i dunno, quit even looking couple years ago...within 500 miles of me there was 1 guy that had the same high priced crap everytime and he took up 90% of 100 pages or more...i got tired of looking thru all that for any deals.

I have had the SAME problem. I thought maybe it was just me. I have posted the problem on the Minneapolis Moline and Oliver forums as well. If you click on "advanced search" and select "exact words" you SHOULD get what you are looking for. I talked to a gal from ebay on the phone and she said there were updates that were done on the 28th of April. It seems the catagories have been changed. They used to be under Business & Industrial > Agriculture & Forestry > Antique tractors and equipment > (parts) > (specific brand) That is the way I used to list parts on it. NOW it is under Business & Industrial > heavy equipment. I was told to file a complaint on the home page... like the "tell us what you think" and "were these search results helpful" links. AND if possible call them and complain (under contact us). I dont have time to sift through 50,000 items lol....

Probably the same thing that happened to "toy tractors" several years ago. I used to go 'toys and hobbies' and then to 'farm toys'. Was off eBay for awhile and when I went back they had changed everything. Took hours to find the farm toys and then they changed again. Goodbye eBay. You were once a lot of fun to browse.

I have always done my ebay searching under Ford tractor. I just checked and it is still the same.

I have been looking under Farmall H in forestry and agriculture ususally 2000 or more items. Yesteday only 3 items. Now I have to wade thru toys and other items to view for parts. Waas up with this???????

It still baffles me why anybody would sell or buy, sight unseen,a tractor on Ebay. Just goes beyond my comprehension.

They're in the process of reorganizing the categories.

I know it's tough for people not in the business to understand but it has to be done from time to time to keep things from getting too out of hand. It is not "change for the sake of change," it's so you will be able to find what you're looking for in the future.

Ebay used to be one giant category. People crabbed up a storm when they split it into categories the first time, and people will crab up a storm every time it happens in the future... It's really a minor inconvenience, and if it's the worst thing that's happened to you recently you've got a darned good life.

All you have to do is find the new category and everything will be the same as before. Here's what I do when it happens:

1. I search for something I *know* will be in the category I am looking for.
2. I click on that item.
3. At the top of the listing is the category.
4. I click on the category, then bookmark it.
5. I delete the old category bookmark.

I just type in the name of the item I am looking for, then I don't have to look through the stuff i'm not interested in.

I beg to differ. A person cannot find what you are looking for because the items have been lunmped under one big catagory of ALL brands and UNLESS you know exactly how to search for JUST those items they will never show up...UNLESS you sift through the WHOLE catagory. If I look under Business and Industrial, and type in Oliver just Oliver shows up, a little over 5000. If I type in Minneapolis Moline, 56000 items show up which are mostly JD and IH, which arent MM items and have nothing to do with MM. I sell items on ebay and people cant even find them now. I used to be able to list it under a certain brand..specifically..now it is under heavy equipment..period, with no way to change it to JUST the brand I am selling. It is not the same to find certain items, as there are only "certain" items of a specific brand in a certain catagory. I knew there were some things for MM under a catagory and only 67 came up....there are usually over 2500. The old catagory was under Agriculture and Forestry. Now it is Heavy Equipment, with things scattered throughout whatever catagories are listed under there. If you click on "view similiar items" next to an item, only a certain number of them show up. A person used to be able to view antique tractors and select the brand you are looking for on the left side of the page, that appears to be gone. They may be in the process of updating each one...but then if I search for just ONE brand just that should show up but it doesnt.

I had gotten an email through ebay from a customer that wasnt having a problem until a day after I mentioned it on here. He said he used a different browser and the old listings showed up like they used to. It should work the way you suggest but it doesnt seem to be consistent between each brand...that is what I dont get.

fle-bay, c-list, outlook mail [old hotmail], etc,, all these site are owned by money and power, they do what they want, some one new to the company, comes up with stupid ideas to change the round wheel.. remember, this is a new era of genuis"s, wanting to show how stupid they are..

I can agree with you there. I think the human race is going to "convienence" its self to extinction....no common sense left anywhere...

I found it. Yes, it appears they reordered the categories. I don't know why. I don't get paid to run the site. But its "Business and industrial, Heavy equipment, antique and vintage farm equipment"
http://www.ebay.com/sch/Antique-Vintage-Farm-Equip-/177642/i.html
antique and vintage farm

I would have to disagree with you that change is needed. Back in 2001 when I first got on eBay I had two catagories I had to look under to find Farm Toys, the first took me to Toys and Hobbies, the second was the listings under Farm Toys. I could find anything I wanted from the Search Box in that area. Logged on one night and they had facelifted the whole site. Took several nights to even find the Toy section and then more time to find the Farm Toys. The next time I logged on months later I had to use the Search Box and then didn't exactly find the Farm Toy section. Like the gentleman said in his post yesterday, "I don't have time to set around trying to find what I am looking for." It worked the way they originally had things set up, 'Leave It Alone.' I don't need a new and exciting display every time I go shopping, all I am interested in is the Product I want to buy. Like I said,"Goodbye eBay."

The one bad thing with them "improving" things is most things are listed under "heavy equipment" so everything is lumped under that and not even in the antique catagory, so most things dont show up. I clicked on the "antique and vintage farm equipment" 210 listings came up. I typed in "Minneapolis Moline" under the same catagory "antique and vintage farm equipment.....and 210 items came up....the SAME listings, and it appears not any MM items....IH Ford JD etc. I agree what was said...it should have been left alone. If I sell a tractor should it be listed in the shoe catagory? It came from a farm and was around a cow...a cow has a hide that is made into shoes...lol...sorry had to funny.
