farmall M 'again'

still working on the basket case M farmall,..does the M have a dipstick in the hydraulic tank,??? i've looked a 2 other M's that are close to me and neither have a dipstick....also there is a brass fitting on the right side of the head toward the back, what's it for ??? i don't have any extra pipes to fit it .....

They originally had one that fit underneath the cap. I think I have only had one H or M with a dipstick through the years. Easy to lose.

Brass fitting on the back was for a line to go to the air cleaner to vent the engine.

the vent is on the back of the head,.this fitting is on the right side about 3 inches from the back and about the same height as the vent...

those dip sticks in the hydraulic tank are prone to loss or breaking off.
take a small bar magnet and tied to a string dip it down in the fill tube.
you might get lucky and find it.
i found one in mine when i repaired it several years ago.
