Seeking wisdom of using Synthetic 90w in mower deck gear box. I mow about 4.5 acres so when I mow this gets some work. With so little oil in there I thought Syn. might help.
Thanks,
Tim

I have seen great results using Mobil 1 75-90 synthetic gear lube in gear boxes that tend to run hot or are of limited durability in a given application.(White 8800 cylinder gear box)

Also, the operators manual says to use only Mobil 1 75-90 synthetic gear lube in the gear boxes on my Shelbourne Reynolds stripper header.

Tim use of Synthetic 90w in mower gear boxes(that we service) cut box failure more than 80 % . At our dealership that is all we encourage our customers to use.

All other factors identical. A thicker oil will run hotter than a thinner oil.
Try the thinnest extreme pressure trans-hydraulic oil. A synthetic version of Hy-Gard or the stuff that IH uses should work.

Funny light duty truck mfgrs. in the US finally decided to put syn in their vehicles and now we're getting 100,000 mile power train warranties.......duhhhhhhhh!!!!!!
