Strange caf eyes

Newborn calf. Simmi/red angus/pinz cross. Was born with his eyes like this. Almost a clear light blue with a black slit across the eye horizontally. He seems to see just fine. Very vigorous little guy. Has any one ever seen anything like this? Just wondering if there is anything I should be proactive with him, or if I should expect he will go blind, or do I just have a unique looking little bull calf

son has a mixed breed red cow drop a bull calf last week with the same condition. appears sight is affected but not blind. see this "Merle Ocular Dysgenesis" as pertaining to dogs, ma be similar.

might add, this cow has had many calves from the same bull over the past several years with no eye problems. question is, if blind, what do you do with the calf? send to sale now or wait?

We had a cow with eyes sort of like that- slits instead of round centers- it looked kind of scary! She did fine and lasted many years. Her eyes were light brown where your calf has the light blue- the blue coloring is certainly different. Hopefully it will turn out okay for you.

I have the same thing with a calf! The vet said they were cataracts, and the calf was blind. Since then they have opened up (the slit) and she seems to see OK. Good Luck!
