jd vanbrunt fb-a grain drill

i planted two one acre fields with orchargrass and timothy mix with oats as a cover crop.the oats went on pound per acre right to the tee just like the settings on the drill instructed.but the orchard grass and timothy did not i ran them through the grass seeder by themselves mixed together.i had the grass setting opened all the way and still had to go over the field twice to get the right amount of seed per acre.only thing i can think of is the cups are worn down on the feeder.anyone else ever experience this
thanks RICK

Orchard grass and fescue type seed is so light and bulky that I mix it with the small grain seed like wheat, oats or barley. The small seed seeder will only handle well, small seeds like timothy, clover and other heavy seeds. Joe

I drill with a Van Brunt drill I mix the grass seed with the oats and put clover in the small seed box

Like the other guys said,You have to mix light fluffy grass seed with oats, etc. to use as a 'carrier'.A drill with an agitator is really nessary, but not always available. If not,I stir the mix every couple rounds or so with a broom stick to prevent "bridgeing".Steve
