VA. Salvage Yard Being Scrapped

I was told yesterday that the tractor salvage yard in Cascade, VA. is being broken up and hauled away as scrap. This yard was operated by the late S.A. Fitts and I think was heavy on I-H parts. I never got to go there and do not know what was left. You would think there had to be at least some good stuff.
Some on here may have heard of it. You can't really blame his family though, always more aspects to it than us outsiders can consider.

I've been there numerous times and knew them well.
Sorry to hear they are going out of business but times change.A lot of tragedy in the family may have contributed to the decision.

I bought parts there several times. Last time I was
there another guy was in front of me and tried to
get Mr. Fitts to lower the price on a grill for a
574. Mr. Fitts had the grill in his hand and turned
around and took a hammer to it. LOL I bet that guy
didn't try to get the price lowered on the next one.

Sorry to hear this news. lots of folks in my area
bought from Mr. Fitts. He was very helpful and
enjoyed dealing with him.

Was there a long time ago and tried to call a few times, definately not the friendliest people in the world. They used to blow a horn at noon and make everyone leave for and hour and come back at 1:00. The last time I called, the guy told me if I was coming down to bring a weed eater with me because you couldn't find the Olivers for the grass.I really hate to see places like this get turned into Toyotas though.

They had their own way about them for sure but
so do folks in most parts yards, sorry to hear about their demise.Old Man Fitts and Bud Yingling
in Gettysburg PA are two fellows I really miss having around.Did you know the Old fellow Travis close to Durham he was another character I really liked. All of them had a million great stories to tell once you got to know them.

I knew Bud Yingling well , several years ago

we talked about me building engines for him

to set up an exchange deal.

If this is the one I remember there was a huge anvil beside the office door. Folks were always trying to buy it. The reply was always 'if you can lift it and carry if off, you can have it'. Went there years ago to help neighbor get some parts.

Last time I was there (a couple of months ago) the son who had been running it was no longer there and Mr. Fitts grandson was running it along with a lady in the office who had started working there when Mr. Fitts was still alive.

They were always very nice and helpful. Had a lot of Massey Ferguson parts. There's a guy named Rice (I believe) in Turberville, VA who is heavy on the I-H parts.

There were two Fitts yards, the large yard on the "outskirts" of Cascade and another yard in "downtown" Cascade that was abandoned after Mr. Fitts death. There were a lot of rusted pieces of tractors and equipment sitting around the abandoned downtown location.
Is this what's going to the scrap yard? If so,maybe they're just cleaning up and not going out of business. Hopefully that's the case.
