CaseIH 885 heavy steering

I bought 1986 caseih 885xl that has heavy steering. Power steering is slow. I have changed hydro oil and filter, checked mechanical steering linkage, rebuilt steering hand pump and checked to see if priority valve is moving easily. I"m now to the point where I"m thinking of tearing into the Multi Control Valve and hydraulic pump. But I"m not sure what I should be looking for. I don"t have much for hydraulic testing tools, but I do have a gauge to measure pressure with. Brakes, remotes and PTO operate as they should. Any help would be appreciated.

I admit i don"t know much about these tractors, even though i have driven one. But if the hydraulic oil pressure is ok, then as i see it you have a couple of things to look at:

I"d take a hard look at the steering cylinder, if the hand pump is ok, then it could be supplying oil ok (could you take the lines of the cylinder to make sure) but the cylinder leaking internally, allowing the cylinder to move, but at a much reduced rate.

Or you have an oil supply (to the hand pump) problem which would require testing the flow and pressure. Probably worth investing in an A&I manual, that should have pressure and flow specs in it)

OJ, thanks for responding, I disconnected a line from the cylinder, started the tractor and pushed the oil out one side of the cylinder into a bucket. no change. I then disconnected a supply from the pump to the cylinder, put that into a bucket and turned the steering wheel. The wheel would turn much easier that way, but obviously there was no restriction. I'll try running a few pressure tests. Thanks.
