Big Red 3 Wheeler?

I have a Honda "Big Red" three wheeler from the last year they were made. It has served me faithfully without mishap, except that the brakes have long ago worn out. About a week ago the little green light that shines when it"s in neutral started to remain off even when in neutral. After much key turning and gear shift rocking the light would come on. I cleaned the battery cables/post thinking it was not grounded good. No help. Now it refuses to light up. Of course the wheeler will NOT crank if the green light ain"t on. Is there a switch somewhere? The keyswitch maybe? Something that is worn or corroded?

We have a 1985 Big red,boy is on it now!Does yours have a kick starter? that is the only way we start ours because I haven't bought a battery yet.anyway since there is no battery the light isn't on but comes on when it starts.sounds like you might have a short in the neutral safety switch if there is one which you might be able to bypass but transmission would still have to be in neutral to start.

there is two switches on the side of the motor under the kick starter i believe or there right behind the shifter there is a thin metal shield covering them.one wire for neutral and the other for reverse they get coroded pull the wire off and clean them that is what worked for me.

try pulling either the brake lever or the clutch lever. My newer Honda has those for interconnect.

I'll buy them all for $400!!!! Where are they? I pay $400 for a parts one. A good condition one will bring $800-$1000 all day long. I have a vast collection of all makes and models and sell parts all over the country.

I agree with previous post in that you have a "neutral" switch on the side of the engine. When in neutral position the end of the shifter drum engages the switch, providing you don't have internal damage or excessive wear the switch should be your problem. The shifter drum is held in neutral position by a detent pin, this is just a "between gears" position.

Had a old 4 wheeler that would do that. It was a loose wire under the head light that went to the green light. Push down on the head light it would work. Crimped the wire and fixed it. Start with the simple stuff.
