Old house band wagon

This is a picture of the house I grew up in, taken from the driveway of my
current home as we were tearing it down. Termites destroyed it.
Typical old farm house, added on to as the family grew.
The aluminum siding and some of the windows had already been removed.
These were taken 12 years ago. Still gets to me.
The old 2 cylinder JD you can see off to the right is still here.

Royse,

Neat old house. Thanks for sharing.

I would hate to have to see either our current home or my childhood home torn down. Seems like it would break a tiny piece of one's soul.

It certainly tears at mine. The memories of that old place are priceless.
The external chimney was built out of cinder chimney block lined with
clay tile flue. I carried them one by one up a ladder and mudded them
in place as my father taught me how to build a chimney.
The addition on the left used to be the front porch that we enclosed to
become my mother's office.
The addition on the far right was the last thing my father and I built
together before he passed.
Mom still lives on that property, new place in the same spot with a
cement basement instead of the old Michigan cellar. (dirt floor)
Important because termites live in the ground.
The barns and corn crib are all gone now too, nothing left except the garage.
I'll see if I can find a picture of the barn.
It was a pretty unique story in itself. 40 x 80 ft originally built on a stone
foundation. When that foundation started to crumble it was moved 150
yards, set on a new concrete foundation and used for another 60+ years.

Even though my brother and I sold our old family home in Ohio almost 20 years ago, I still drive by it a couple of times a year. We kept the family farm, but couldn't manage the buildings from 180 miles away. Fortunately the current owners have kept it up very well, so no tears on my part.
