I have been around horses all my life but have very little experience with mules. Some people love mules and others hate them. I don't personally know why mules and horses are so different, but a mule lover will swear by them.

A horse will work it self to death and a mule won't. My old timer friend had mules and swore by them. He said horses didn't have the long range endurance . Great to here from you gitrib. Your friends on here were starting to worry.

You can tell those mules were well taken of. We used one in the garden on a cultivator. She never ate any sweet corn. It was hard to convince my dad to use tractors. About the time the Korean war started we got an H and C. My brother and I went into the military. Hal

When I was growing up my Dad had a team of mules that I worked till about 16 yrs. old. Also had Guernsey cows, milked by hand, bottled and delivered milk. One mule was pretty wiry. No One EVER rode him. A few tried. My Dad told of times horses could not pull a wagon hung up. He Hooked the mules and pulled the wagon out. Great Days in my life!!

Great photo and history. Any idea as to why one mule has a short tail (been cut?) and the other doesn't? I've seen horses like that also and wondered (or wandering).
