Big Old Barn Pics

This is an old barn by us that isn't doing much anymore. Took some pictures of it the other day on the way to town so I could post them on here. Larry@stinescorner has me looking at these old buildings closer with the pictures he has been posting. The stories they could tell. I think this would of been a pretty nice place back in its glory days. John

(quoted from post at 14:57:20 04/12/13) I can't even imagine trying to replace something like that today. To build comparable would be monumental. Beautiful.
agree & can't even imagine filling it with hay!!

I think Larry has a lot to answer for. I, too, go round with a whole new look on life. I see buildings and the countryside in a whole new way. Thanks Larry.
JDJohn, that barn looks terrific, you have probably passed it lots of times and never really noticed it, now you see it with different eyes. Phil

If that barn was full of livestock a guy could spent his whole life shoveling manure and never get done! It is a beautiful thing but I sure wouldn't want to use it again. It does appear to me that the bottom floor has been made or modified to be cleaned out with a tractor or skid steer, but the second floor looks like fork work. And as someone else said, imagine filling it with hay!

(quoted from post at 14:51:41 04/12/13) Can't help thinking, it would be a surprise (a good one I presume) for the owner to see his barn on here.

Now a days he would probably sue you for invasion of privacy.

interesting. i would love a back story on yhat one. I've looked at and noticed many of the old barns since I was a kid and many of them are gone now. I've heard much of the history of the local area from my father, grandfather, and as many of the older folks as I get a chance to talk to. that is a great barn.

Back in the day a farmer could feed his livestock in that barn during a snowstorm and not even know it's snowing outside. I would think that farm was more than a one man operation when it was in it's glory. Either the farmer had a big family with a lot of kids to pitch manure and stack hay or he had hired men.

A lot of progressive thinking went into the design and architecture when it was built. What would a barn like that have cost to build back around the turn of the century? Someone gathered and skidded a lot of rocks just to make the foundation. Jim

I've spent enough time in the mow of those beautiful old girls stacking bales up tight to the roof when it's about 90 to appreciate their beauty without doing it again.
